Hey Mothership Community,
Amy Keller here, Co-Creator of The Mothership. This is an issue I was inspired to write after reading of the recent (unexpected) passing of Danna Omari. Her kind, soft, radiant presence was famous in beauty and alternative healing communities as NoySkinCare on Instagram. She was also an entrepreneur, a wife and the mother to three small children.
In today’s essay:
The Summer Reset
Why the future is (mostly) offline this Summer
Thoughts on building a viral brand while raising small children
What to do with 15-mins to yourself, instead of scrolling
Writing prompts to create clarity on what matters to you this Summer
This week I’ve been (slowly) packing up bookshelves, linen closets and emptying out junk drawers one room at a time. You might remember, at the start of this eight year (2024) my family bought our first home. A house from the ‘80s, like me, and in a prime location in South Florida.
We’re surrounded by the best parks, community centers, biking and walking paths, shops and restaurants. Plus we’re just minutes from our favorite beach. But what I’m most excited to explore with my family is The YMCA.
I grew up at The Y and The Boys & Girls Club. It’s the places you ride your bike to lose track of time playing with kids you don’t know. It’s the community pool where you get your first sunburn and the Parks & Recreations t-ball team you join with matching yellow jerseys sponsored by the local pizza shop.
The YMCA is the nostalgic gateway drug to those simple, playful, innocent Summers of my early childhood.
If this eclipse season has revealed anything to me, it’s that I am craving the unplugged version of an old fashioned YMCA Summer.
